The Forest Solutions Group Strategic Review
|

As one of the oldest and most respected value chain groups in the WBCSD, the Forest Solutions Group has embarked on a strategic review (with the help of Boston Consulting Group) to redefine its role as the global engagement platform on sustainable forestry and forest products.
The first stage of this review took place during WBCSD’s recent Liaison Delegate meeting in Montreux, where it was important that I took an active role. The review will continue throughout the year, culminating with FSG presenting their new strategic plan at the 16 October Council Meeting in Mexico.
A central part of this process is engagement with leaders in the forest sector. Through insight and dialogue, we aim to develop a strategic plan that covers all the pathways forest industry leaders feel are critical for the sector moving forward.
We look forward to sharing with you the developments and ultimately the new strategy later in the year.

FSG is proud to launch a guide to assist sustainability practitioners from the forest sector in undertaking social capital assessments. It provides context on why social capital is relevant for the sector, and shows how it benefits business through real life case studies from six leading companies: Mondi, AkzoNobel, APRIL, The Navigator Company, Smurfit Kappa and Veracel. As part of its commitment to non-financial measurement and valuation, FSG is partnering with the Natural Capital Coalition and contributing its global membership base and established network to lead the development of the Forest Products Sector Guide to the Natural Capital Protocol , on behalf of the coalition. With a three-hour workshop held at WBCDS’s Annual Liaison Delegates Meeting, the group set in motion a broad stakeholder engagement process that will run until spring 2018.
