WBCSD President and CEO Peter Bakker addresses the G20 Ministerial Meeting in Japan

Peter Bakker delivered a speech at the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth in Karuizawa, Japan on 15 June. He called for business leadership to help realize the ambitions of the Paris Climate Agreement and the SDGs. Bakker pointed to the need for transformation across a number of key economic systems while also emphasizing how transforming the financial system sits at the heart of many of these transitions. A new global coalition was announced to elevate a business call to reverse nature loss and restore the planet's vital natural systems. Business leaders recognize that nature is essential for a healthy economy, healthy communities and a healthy planet. Hosted by WBCSD, Business for Nature will convene this united business voice to clearly demonstrate that the protection of nature is an economic as well as a moral imperative. The coalition will call on governments to adopt an ambitious new deal for nature and people, supported by specific sets of actions, to ensure that nature can continue to underpin prosperity and wellbeing for all.
