Time to transform – GreenBiz21 keynote on how business must lead the transformation the world needs

WBCSD President & CEO Peter Bakker, together with Sunny Verghese (CEO and Co-Founder, Olam International as well as WBCSD Chair) and Andrea Alvares (Chief Marketing, Innovation and Sustainability Officer at Natura) engaged in a keynote session at Greenbiz21 to address the importance of positioning transformation at the core of business’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery efforts, and to tackle the roots of the climate emergency, nature loss and growing inequalities. The session provided a preview of WBCSD’s refreshed Vision 2050, a framework to guide business action for the decade ahead that is practical, grounded in reality, and designed to help companies drive change in their sustainability planning and business strategies.


Congratulations to the inspiring women leaders who received the WBCSD Leading Women Awards 2020

Five inspiring women leaders have received the WBCSD Leading Women Awards 2020. The Awards are designed to recognize outstanding female leaders and to showcase their work in sustainability towards achieving the SDGs. Sponsored by Griffith Foods, the Awards recognized women leaders in two categories: Excellence in sustaining and advancing sustainability within a WBCSD member company; and Exemplary leadership during COVID-19 crisis.


Leadership in an age of climate change

Claire O’Neill, Managing Director of WBCSD’s Climate & Energy Program, joined Michael Liebreich, a thought leader on clean energy, mobility, technology, climate, sustainability and finance and the founder and senior contributor of Bloomberg New Energy Finance, to discuss the key priorities for a net zero climate recovery.


How can the construction sector benefit from digital technology?

Check out new WBCSD insights demonstrating the critical role of digitalization in establishing sustainable practices in the buildings and construction sector. Digitalization can improve sustainability performance and help develop new processes, services and markets, but despite the promising benefits, the sector has been slow to fully adopt emerging digital technologies. A new WBCSD report offers a set of recommendations at company and sector levels for accelerating the deployment of digitalization.


WBCSD to co-organize Built Environment Day at COP26

WBCSD and nine other organizations have been invited to join forces with the UK Presidency to organize a dedicated 'Built Environment and Cities Day’ at COP26 in November this year. This follows the signing of a letter to COP26 President, Alok Sharma, calling for a Built Environment Day at the climate summit. This day will bring together diverse stakeholders from the buildings and construction sector, present concrete pathways to net zero and highlight opportunities for a green recovery.


Transformative Investment in Climate-Smart Agriculture: Unlocking the potential of soil to help the U.S. achieve a net-zero economy

A new report by U.S. Farmers and Ranchers in Action (USFRA), with WBCSD and other top leaders in the sector, highlights "how to use capital as a tool for climate" in the agriculture sector. The report outlines financial flows and examples of financial innovation to help the sector contribute to the adoption of climate-smart agriculture practices at scale in the U.S. and serves as a playbook covering the technology and financial mechanisms that will enable this transition.


Water Circularity Metrics - Tool application and guidance

WBCSD’s Global Water Solutions and Factor 10 projects, in partnership with the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER), launched the Water Circularity Metrics tool and Guidance. The tool enables companies to quantify their water circularity performance and monitor progress in the transition from linear to circular water management. The outcome indicators from the tool are included in the Circular Transition Indicators that support business in measuring circularity.


Shifting diets: Methods to encourage consumers in the UK to eat healthier, more sustainable meals

This study explores consumer motivation and willingness to eat healthier, more sustainable foods in the UK. This primary research provides insights about the understanding, motivation and willingness to eat healthier alternatives among three target consumer segments and outlines four priority action areas.
